Supercharge Your Job Search (and Career) By Unlocking the Untapped Synergy Between Your Resume and LinkedIn Profile
Whether or not you know it—whether or not you like it—you have a professional brand. It’s what people think and say about you when you’re not in the room. It’s what they think about you when your name comes up in conversation. It's an authentic testimony of who you are, what sets you apart, and showcases the unique attributes you bring to your profession.
So, why not be proactive in shaping and cultivating it? One of the places you can do that is on LinkedIn.
ALL recruiters use LinkedIn. It’s one of the first places they go to find out more about you. When you come up on a search, it’s important to capture their attention quickly—they’ll only take a few seconds to decide if you’re worth talking to, even if you’re not actively looking.
Hiring managers also use it to learn more about you before interviewing you. They don’t need to know what they’ve already read on your resume. So don’t just cut and paste your resume into your profile. Instead, use your profile to talk about WHO you are, not just WHAT you’ve done. Use it as an opportunity to tell your story in a more personal, authentic way and make people want to know more about you.
It's a strategy that will help you stand out and increase the likelihood of capturing the attention of recruiters and hiring managers—even when you're not actively looking for a new job. Furthermore, it'll help you attract contacts and make connections with professionals who are more relevant and appropriate for what you do, and for what you are trying to achieve in your career, now and in the future.
One of my coaching colleagues recently posted an article that summarizes three basic steps you can take to up your game on LinkedIn. You can read about it here: http://bit.ly/3KbKpv0.
